  • introduced legislation that makes SCRIE benefits more accessible to seniors who qualify for this important rent reduction (Assembly Bill A. 5562, 2013)
  • successfully fought to protect $25 million in state funding for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) as part of the 2013-14 state budget
  • secured investments in our community that benefit our youth and seniors through projects such as the New Settlement Community Campus in Mount Eden
  • introduced legislation to end the use of text messages and other technologies to harass students (Assembly Bill A. 2746, 2013)
  • was a strong advocate for programs to support our youth such as Career Pathways, Settlement Houses, Advantage After-school, SUNY/CUNY childcare, and programs that focus on alternatives to youth incarceration
  • •supported funding for our seniors to receive necessary medication though the state’s EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage) program

As our Council Member, Vanessa will...

  • focus on job training and apprenticeship programs and resources to expand upon employment opportunities for young adults
  • collaborate with faith-based and community based organizations to increase recreational and sports programs to engage youth in our parks, playgrounds and libraries
  • continue to fight for additional resources for senior centers to enhance activities for seniors
  • partner with educators and advocates to expand on fatherhood initiatives and programs to strengthen relationships with parents and their children
