Support Grows for Bronx Assemblywoman Vanessa L. Gibson In Her Bid for 16th District Council Seat

Support continues to grow for State Assemblywoman Vanessa L. Gibson (D-Bronx,77th AD) in her bid to win an open seat in New York City’s 16th Council District as a former rival announced his support for her in the all important Sept. 10th Democratic Party primary.

090313_Bello2.jpg“Vanessa Gibson is a proven leader with a track record of success that we can all be proud of,” said Abiodun Bello as he endorsed his onetime opponent. “She is by far the most qualified candidate in this race and she has proven to be an effective voice for our increasingly diverse community during her four years in the state Assembly. She knows that access to a quality education is an important foundation for success – especially for immigrants – and she has spent years as a leading advocate on that issue. I am confident she will be able to get results as a member of the New York City Council.”

An advocate for education reform himself, Mr. Bello has served as the President of the Community Education Council in his local school district and as a past PTA President. He has also been active as a union member of District Council 37, and testified on education-related issues before state legislative committees. His endorsement of Vanessa L. Gibson is just the latest indication of her strong support in the African community in the 16th Council District.

“I am proud of Mr. Bello’s support as he joins a growing list of community leaders who are backing my candidacy,” Assemblywoman Vanessa L. Gibson said. “I am committed to building upon our successes and making the 16th Council District a better place to live for all our families.”
