Assemblywoman Vanessa L. Gibson makes plans to announce her bid for Bronx City Council seat

State Assemblywoman Vanessa L. Gibson (D-Bronx,77th AD) is preparing to announce her plans to run for the New York City Council during a press conference being held at the Bronx Museum of the Arts on Thursday, February 21st at 11:00am.

As she announces the kick-off of her campaign for the 16th Council District seat, Gibson will be joined by Bronx County Democratic Party Chairman Carl Heastie, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr., and Bronx Deputy Borough President Aurelia Greene, other local elected officials, community leaders, clergy members, advocates and community residents.

Since first being elected to the Assembly in a special election held in June 2009, Gibson has been a strong advocate for tenants’ rights, job creation, programs for Bronx seniors and youth, and improvements in healthcare for area families. Gibson has also been a steadfast supporter of funding for essential health, education and higher education programs that enhance access for the residents of her Bronx district.

“I am proud to have already received such strong support as I prepare to run for the 16th District Council seat and I look forward to strengthening the partnerships I have built with advocates and residents from throughout the district,” Gibson said. “In addition I look forward to working with all of my colleagues in government as we join together to make sure that the 16th Council District, and our entire borough, achieves its full potential.”
