Access to Affordable Housing

In the Assembly, Vanessa has…

  • worked with tenants and advocates to extend and strengthen New York’s rent regulations
  • secured a historic $1 billion commitment to increase the availability of quality affordable housing for all New Yorkers as part of the 2013-14 state budget
  • introduced legislation that would strengthen the SCRIE program by making it more accessible to our vulnerable seniors (Assembly Bill A. 5562).
  • introduced legislation that closes loopholes and makes it easier for tenants to respond to MCI-related rent increases (Assembly Bill A. 764).
  • supported homeowners by winning the full funding of foreclosure prevention services as part of the 2013-14 state budget

As our Council Member, Vanessa will...

  • focus on creative incentives to promote affordable housing for disabled veterans, domestic violence victims, seniors, grandparents raising their grandchildren and youth aging out of the foster care system
  • collaborate with colleagues to address the ongoing crisis of homelessness in NYC
  • engage community leaders and housing advocates to promote opportunities for affordable housing for middle income families and homeownership programs
  • continue to be a strong advocate for the thousands of tenants who live in rent regulated and rent stabilized apartments
